In order to prevent unauthorized entry into the Taj Mahal, turnstile doors have been introduced at the entrance and exit points of the monument. The new restrictions have been brought in to make sure visitor numbers, which can reach as high as 50.000 per day, remain sustainable.
“7 turnstile doors have been installed at the East and West entry point and 5 doors for the exit. For the entry of foreign tourists, there are different doors.” said Basant Kumar, superintendent of the Archaeological Service of India.
These new measures resonated strongly among the visitors. Previously, tourists could stay at the Taj Mahal for as long as they wanted, from the opening time to 30 minutes before sunrise and to closing time, 30 minutes before sunset.
