The request is for governments to develop a package of actions that allows the impact of the health crisis caused by coronavirus to be felt as little as possible in the tourism sector, which the WTTC considers as ” the backbone of the world economy”.

Among the actions claimed is the provision of financial aid by governments to protect the jobs in the tourism sector. There is also a call for unlimited, interest-free loans to global travel and tourism companies, as well as small and medium-sized businesses, as a stimulus to prevent millions of jobs from collapsing and being lost.

According to the WTTC, travel and tourism contribute 10.4% of world GDP and generates 1 in 10 jobs around the world. It’s for this reason that the international body urges governments to develop measures as quickly as possible so that tourism could become one of the escape routes for the economic growth.

Independent studies show that Wonder tourism, at the New 7 Wonders of the World, the New 7 Wonders of Nature and the National 7 Wonders, grows at twice the rate of worldwide tourism, and therefore will be the central engine of re-establishing economic success once Coronavirus subsides as it will soon do.
