The travel industry should own a digital platform to face a surge in Indonesia’s tourism after the coronavirus pandemic is over, the Indonesian Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Wishnutama Kusubandio said in a virtual discussion with the Association of Indonesian Tour and Travel Agencies, on Saturday 2 May.

 

The Tourism and Creative Economy Minister of Indonesia, Wishnutama Kusubandio, encouraged travel agents to adapt to ‘new normal’ post-corona. In a virtual discussion with the ASITA, the minister shared some insights to help the travel industry regain its power after the coronavirus pandemic. Komodo Island, one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature (and the fastest growing tourism destination in Indonesia) will be a key part of the re-growth post-corona.

 

He encouraged travel agents to have digital platforms, since it is considered essential in the new travel ecosystem, as he predicted a surge in tourism once the pandemic is over. 

 

The minister said the tourism sector was getting ready for a surge in tourists by formulating promotional plans: “the first step is to encourage Indonesian tourists by coming up with alluring travel packages,” he said to the press.

 

“For the next tourism development, we will focus on the principle things, namely hygiene and sanitation in tourist attractions, accommodation and modes of transportation,” the minister also said.
