Mexico is ready to welcome back tourists: according to local authorities, the Mexican caribbean would begin reopening to international travel on June 1. In anticipation, tourism offices developed a campaign to attract visitors with two-for-one hotel stays.
Airlines from the United States, Canada and Europe are expected to begin operating services to the Mexican Caribbean on June.
The Quintana Roo Tourism Promotion Council director, Dario Flota Ocampo, said the first phase of the plan is to restart flights to key international hubs in Mexico like Cancun, Cozumel and Chetumal. Once the service resumes, travelers will be welcomed back with a new set of health and hygiene protocols developed by the government.
Flota Ocampo also stated that local attractions are also expected to reopen.This means that Chichén Itzá, one of the New 7 Wonders of the World, might start receiving its first visitors.
