According to China’s government, the Five-Year Plan for 2021-2025 is expected to guide in another period of high growth for the domestic and international tourism sector. The country that hosts the Great Wall, one of the New 7 Wonders of the World, final goal is to boost tourism while integrating its culture.
The government plan should “promote the integrated development of the cultural and tourism industries, develop a number of world-class tourist attractions and resorts with rich cultural connotations and build tourism and leisure zones with distinctive cultural traits”.
The plan also aims to protect urban historical and cultural heritages, integrate architecture with local cultural features and build cities into cultural tourism hubs. As a way to promote the cultural heritage, the government will also “cultivate tourism products and services such as performing arts, urban historical tours, and urban theme park tours, in order to turn cities into the main venues and engines for high-quality, integrated cultural and tourism development”.
