According to the National Institute of Anthropology and History, between September and November of this year over 150.000 visits were registered in the archaeological sites. Chichén Itzá, one of the New 7 Wonders of the World, was the most chosen destination by national and international tourists.
Although Chichén Itzá was one of the last attractions to open on September 22, its power as a Wonder of the World contributed to it becoming the most visited area in a short period of time. In just two months it received 116.878 visitors.
The National Institute of Anthropology and History highlighted that of the 153.325 tourists who traveled through Yucatan, 80% were nationals. This comes as a result of months of joint work between the public and private sector to promote domestic tourism.
