The “Cultural Routes for Sustainable Social and Economic Development in Mediterranean” project was signed in Jordan as a way to boost sustainable tourism in the country that hosts Petra, one of the New 7 Wonders of the World.
The project is an initiative from the European Union and was signed between the Royal Marine Conservation Society of Jordan (JREDS) and the Aqaba Juhod Al Ayadi Exhibition. The project will promote sustainable tourism, support local communities while it highlights the importance of heritage and identity.
According to JREDS Aqaba branch manager, Mohammad Al Tawaha, the project aims to “empower women by providing an opportunity to boost their income through displaying and selling traditional food and hand-made crafts”.
