The volume of tourists who visited the archaeological zone of this New 7 Wonder of the World increased gradually, after five months of closure due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and the flow of tourists is expected to continue to regularize. 255 thousand visitors were received in the last four months.
At the end of the year, Chichén Itzá remained the second most important archaeological zone in the country in number of tourists with an attendance of 787,940 people, only below Teotihuacán, in the State of Mexico, which received one million.
Due to the pandemic, the Mayan city did not reach the figure of 2.6 million that were had in 2019.
On average, the Wonder received just over 2,300 people a day in the last four months, when it regularly exceeded 8,000 in 2018 and 2019 respectively. However, while Yucatán continues with an “orange traffic light”, it is highly probable that the influx of tourists to Chichén Itzá and other archaeological sites will continue to rise.
