In the southeast of Ha Long Bay, one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature, Vietnam’s Cat Ba Archipelago aims to obtain world heritage recognition. The Vietnam National Commission for Unesco will work with the country’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in order to achieve recognition.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam, the world heritage status recognition “aims to maintain and conserve the endemic value of biodiversity of Cat Ba Archipelago, so as to boost socio-economic development of the locality and promote the image of the country”.

Ha Long Bay achieved World Heritage recognition in 2000 and was chosen as one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature by the global campaign launched by the New7Wonders Foundation in 2011.
