The Table Mountain National Park administration, one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature, released a statement in which it prohibits the use of drones for recreational purposes as a way to conserve and protect the habitat.
According to the South Africa National Parks spokesperson, Lauren Clayton, “Table Mountain National Park is disappointed at the disregard for park rules concerning the use of drones, specifically along the Lions Head summit. We have come across many social media posts of park visitors making use of drones illegally for either game viewing, filming, photography”.
National parks in South Africa are protected areas with restricted airspace, making them a no-fly zone for all unauthorized aircraft systems which puts in danger not only the wildlife but also the official aerial support services.
