Italy’s new prime minister, Mario Draghi, announced the reopening of the Ministry of Tourism closed in 1993. The brand new minister stated that the time has come for tourism to be considered as one of the top priorities in the country that hosts the Colosseum, one of the New 7 Wonders of the World.

Tourism will finally have its own Ministry, since from 1993 it was part of the Ministry of Culture. For the prime minister Draghi, it is important to give tourism the status it deserves since the industry represents nearly 15% of the country’s total workforce employed

The news was well received among the tourism representatives, who saw in the brand new minister, Massimo Garavaglia, a light of hope for the sector. In one of his first statements to the press, he announced that “the first thing to do is to sign a protocol with all regions that shows that everyone works together, as a team, to promote Italy in the world”.
