The home to Ha Long Bay, one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature, is committed to reduce pollution while protecting the natural environment. This is why in June 2020 the ASEAN-wide Ending Plastic Pollution Innovation Challenge was launched as a way to search for innovative solutions to the problem.
The challenge was created to combat plastic waste in Ha Long Bay and Koh Samui, Thailand. Three out of four winners are Vietnamese companies among 159 participant teams from Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Malaysia.
The firms were awarded with 18.000 USD to apply the solutions in Ha Long Bay and Koh Samui, and will be enrolled in a nine-month impact acceleration programme delivered by UNDP Impact Aim.
According to General Director of the Vietnam Administration of Seas and Islands, Ta Dinh Thi, “the results of the competition show the diffusion of the spirit of environmental protection and the responsibility of the community to solve the current global problem, plastic waste”.
