Jordan’s Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Nayef Al Fayez, received the Italian Ambassador to Jordan, Fabio Cassese, to discuss bilateral cooperation in the fields of archaeology and tourism in the countries that host two of the New 7 Wonders of the World: Petra and the Colosseum, respectively.

The official statement informed that “Italy is carrying out several projects worth millions of euros, from Shoubak Castle to the historic centre of Madaba and the Roman Theatre of Amman, among others”, since there are six Italian archaeological missions supported by the Italian ministry of foreign affairs as part of the 2017 memorandum of agreement.

One of the most ambitious projects is the establishment of the Regional Centre for Restoration and Conservation in Jerash. According to the officials, “collaboration will continue stronger because the common goal is to restart tourism after the pandemic”.
