Peru’s government announced the creation of the Emergency Operations Center of Foreign Trade and Tourism Sector (COES-Mincetur) under responsibility of the Ministry of Tourism, with the purpose of ensuring a timely decision-making process in the home of Machu Picchu, one of the New 7 Wonders of the World.
According to the Ministerial Resolution, “this emergency operations center is in charge of getting, gathering, and sharing information regarding the development of imminent threats, emergencies, or disasters, within the sector’s area of competence”.
The COES-Mincetur will be under responsibility of the Foreign Trade and Tourism Sector and “must coordinate the actions in response to emergencies and disasters” In addition, it is responsible for continuously monitoring threats, emergencies, and disasters, as well as administering and exchanging information with constituent entities of the National Disaster Risk Management System (Sinagerd) for a timely decision-making.
