In an official trip, Mexico’s Minister of Tourism held several meetings with Californian tourism representatives in order to promote the country’s top destinations such as Chichen Itza, one of the New 7 Wonders of the World, as part of a tourism promotion strategy called operation “Toca Puertas” (knocking on doors).

Tourism Minister, Miguel Torruco, travelled to California with an official committee as well as representatives from Mexican airlines to meet tourism sector representatives, business leaders and investors from the most important market in the United States.

The official agenda stipulated presentations about the Maya Train project, the potential of the Islas Marías as well as the development of the Huasteca Potosina region of San Luis Potosí since “the great connection with the state of California makes it the No. 1 market in the United States for travelers to Mexico”, as Torruco stated.
