The country that hosts the Puerto Princesa Underground River, one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature, announced the new series of goals set for 2022: achieve sustainable, resilient and inclusive tourism.

The three pillars are part of the Philippines Department of Tourism (DOT) recovery plan for the entire tourism industry, focused on strengthening the sector for the future demands. The DOT proposed a PHP3.52 billion budget for 2022 to support its plans and programs, as well as PHP203.79 million for the National Parks Development Committee.

According to the Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, “the DOT would expand its product offerings and explore more green tourism lanes that may be used by domestic tourists next year once the Philippines’ travel set-up has stabilized. Under the Tourism Standards and Enforcement Program, we shall continue to improve service standards and restore confidence to travel, develop, and enforce tourism standards that are at par with global best practices”.
