The most recent study made by the Peruvian Association of Travel and Tourism Agencies (Apavit) shows that the majority of visitors to the home to Machu Picchu, one of the New 7 Wonders of the World, come from Europe; the United States and Mexico.

The Apavit Chairman Ricardo Acosta explained to the press that “the visitors arrive in Lima, but the majority of these international travelers visit our main tourist attraction, Machu Picchu”. He also pointed out that places like the Tarapoto jungle and Arequipa are starting to become must-sees between foreign visitors.

Acosta also expressed that “the influx of international tourists currently accounts for only 10% of the registered figures compared to pre-pandemic levels”. However, Perú is starting to reopen its borders to foreign tourism with softer protocols and restrictions for vaccinated visitors.
