During the celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Iguazu Falls being chosen as one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature, the city of Puerto Iguazú was the main scenario for the Iguazú Jungle Trail, Argentina’s first zero waste competition.
The trail was carried out on November 7 and was a joint venture between the Fundación Verde Ecologista and the Ministry of Tourism of Misiones. The competition offered distances of 5, 10 and 21 kilometers and welcomed runners from Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Ecuador.
The event was the first of its kind since it was organized based on the principles of Zero Carbon and Zero Waste, with zero environmental impact. All the materials used in the event were reusable, recyclable or compostable; and the carbon footprint generated will be offset by planting native trees for the reforestation of the Atlantic Forest.
