For the first time, the British Museum will exhibit ancient treasures from the Inca culture which includes relics from Machu Picchu, one of the New 7 Wonders of the World.
“Marking Peru’s bicentennial year of independence, this exhibition highlights the history, beliefs and cultural achievements of the different peoples who lived here from around 2500 BC to the arrival of Europeans in the 1500s, and their legacy in the centuries that followed”, states on the museum’s official website.
The exhibition titled “Peru: A Journey in Time” opened last November 11 and will be available until February 20, 2022. The initiative collects more than 40 extraordinary objects from nine museums throughout Peru and counts with the participation of Peru’s Ministry of Culture; the Lima Art Museum; the Gartner Collection, the Temple Radicati Foundation – San Marcos National University; El Brujo Archaeological Complex | Augusto N. Wiese Foundation; the ‘Santiago Uceda Castillo’ Museum – Huacas de Moche Archaeological Project; Kuntur Wasi Museum; the Larco Museum; the National Museum of Archeology, Anthropology and History of Peru, and the Amano Pre-Columbian Textile Museum.
