The city that hosts Christ The Redeemer, one of the New 7 Wonders of the World, announced the governmental decision of cancelling the world’s most famous carnival street parades due to the new cases outbreak.

Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Paes announced the cancellation of the city’s traditional carnival-time street parades, a decision made after meeting with representatives of the city’s carnival “blocos”, the carnival main actors.

This year’s carnival was scheduled from February 25 to March 2, with more than 500 blocos planning to perform on the streets with people from all over the world. However, the authorities informed that the Sambadrome performance will go ahead as planned, as the stadium-like venue allows authorities to take health precautions.
