The FIFA 2022 World Cup in Qatar was not only about football, since it was also characterised by tourism with the New 7 Wonders of Nature represented by the finalist teams.
Argentinian football fans around the world are celebrating following the team’s victory over France in what was one of the most exhilarating World Cup finals in the competition’s history.
The final between France as the defending champions and an inspired Argentina –backed by their huge contingent of ardent supporters– also led to a spectacular duel between the championship’s two biggest stars: Kylian Mbappé and Lionel Messi.
For his part, Messi has now achieved his second world triumph with the World Cup, having previously supported the world victory of the Iguazú Falls as one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature in 2011. But France is not far behind since the country represents the Amazon, a destination shared by 9 nations including Guyane, a territory of France. This huge rainforest of incredible environmental importance was also voted among the New 7 Wonders of Nature.
However, these two idols are not the only iconic figures who have participated in the global New 7 Wonders campaigns. Cristiano Ronaldo was one of the first New7Wonders ambassadors in 2007, announcing one of the winners of the New 7 Wonders of the World. From then on, the footballer was forever associated with the number 7.
This year, victorious Argentina held aloft the hallowed FIFA World Cup trophy before a packed house of 88,966 inside a resplendent Lusail Stadium, drawing the curtain on an epic, unforgettable and unprecedented tournament. And all this in Doha, Qatar, one of the official New7Wonders Cities!
Wonders and football remain united across the world.
