About 12.6 million international tourists have visited Vietnam this year, a 3.4-fold increase from 2022, surpassing the previously set target of 8 million, the General Statistics Office (GSO) reported on Dec. 29.

The annual figure, however, is equivalent to only 70% of the pre-pandemic level in 2019, the agency said, adding that in December alone it stood at almost 1.4 million, a month-on-month increase of 11.2% and 93, 9%. year with year.

Meanwhile, some five million Vietnamese traveled abroad during the year, double the number in 2022. During the last month of 2023, the number was estimated at 352,100, an increase of 23.2% from the same period last year.

Revenue from accommodation and catering services reached VND673.5 trillion ($27.77 billion) this year, accounting for 10.8% of the total value and increased by 14.7% compared to the previous year.

The Vietnam National Tourism Authority said the National Tourism Year 2023, organized in the central coastal province of Binh Thuan under the theme “Green Convergence”, has successfully concluded and featured more than 200 domestic and international events.

Binh Thuan welcomed a record number of 8.5 million tourists in the year and collected VND23 trillion from the sector, doubling that figure in 2022. It has been among the nine localities nationwide that record the highest tourism revenues, contributing to promote the country’s tourism recovery. and promote the land and people of Vietnam to international friends.

The National Tourism Year 2024 will take place in the northern province of Dien Bien, commemorating the 70th anniversary of the victory of Dien Bien Phu, which played a decisive role in ending the war of resistance against the French colonialists.
