From the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur), Minister Juan Carlos Mathews, announced these days that, during 2023, 2,524,658 international tourists entered Peru, which represents an interannual growth of 25.7% exceeding The initial projections.

The immense cultural and natural diversities of Peru, some well -known and others not so much,

They have made the country a cluster of expressions, communities and ways of life. This, of course, has been taken advantage of by the different campaigns of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) to position the country as a nation of unparalleled attractions.

Among the attractions that stand out, are the Amazon river that since 2011 is one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature. And also in Peru highlights the Machu Picchu, which was chosen in 2007 as one of the New 7 Wonders of the World, and is a World Heritage since 1983.

In reference to the number of international visits in Peru, the head of the Mincetur-Juan Carlos Mathews- said: “This is an important figure obtained thanks to the coordinated work of the government and the private sector. Tourism means more income, currencies and employment for the country. Our efforts are focused on reaching prepaandemics figures as soon as possible. ”

According to migration information, the main international tourist issuing markets during the past year were: Chile (23.5%participation), United States (19.4%), Ecuador (9.5%), Colombia (5, 8%) and Bolivia (5.3%), while the most dynamic markets were Asians: Hong Kong (+254%), Taiwan (+208%), China (+189%), Korea (+178%) , Malaysia (+138%) and Singapore (+128%).

At the regional block level, South America concentrated 53.8% of the total arrivals (1,359,344 international tourists) and grew 45%. On the other hand, North America (+5.4%) explained 24.3%(613 thousand tourists), Europe (+1.2%) 14.9%, Asia (the most dynamic with a growth of 82.6 %) 3.4%and Central America (+15.4%) 2.7%.

On the other hand and with respect to the income from immigration control, Jorge Chávez International Airport (AIJCH) recorded the arrival of 1.6 million international tourists (65.1% participation). For its part, the Santa Rosa border control post concentrated 17.7% (446 thousand tourists), the Binational Center for Frontera Attention Tumbes 8.1% (204 thousand) and the Border Control Post Desaguadero /Carancas /Carancas / CEBAF of Puno 4.5% (114 thousand).

Minister Juan Carlos Mathews said that in 2024 Peru will have better perspectives at the level of receptive and internal tourism and recalled that we will be in the eyes of the world to be the host country of the meetings of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC).

“To this, we must add the tourism promotion campaigns that will be launched through Promperú. It is transcendental to strengthen receptive tourism, increasing the visitor’s confidence, ”said Mincetur head.

New Year’s holiday

In the end of the year holiday (December 30, 2023 to January 2, 2024), more than 1.4 million tourists nationwide mobilized, exceeding our initial estimates, said Minister Mathews.

He pointed out that this growing flow of visitors contributed to strengthening domestic tourism and generated a decentralized economic movement estimated at US $ 215 million, with hotel occupancy levels greater than 90% in the main tourist destinations nationwide.
