The Secretary of Tourism of Mexico (Sectur) – Miguel Torruco Marqués – pointed out that the offer of scheduled seats on international flights to Mexico in 2023 was almost 35 million seats, an increase of 7.5% compared to 2022.
And it indicated that the arrival of passengers on international flights to Mexico by region, from January to December 2023, was 27 million 716 thousand 543 passengers, of which 76.3% came from North America, 13.4% from the Caribbean, Central and South America; 9.7% from Europe and 0.6% from Asia.
In addition, the head of the Tourism portfolio highlighted that in December 2023, almost 3 million passengers were transported, the highest figure of the year, which is equivalent to 81% of the seat supply, with just over 3.5 seats being offered. million seats in international service that month, also the highest figure in 2023.
Marqués specified that the airports with the highest number of seats scheduled to Mexico during 2023 in international service were Cancún, AICM and Guadalajara, adding 25 million 579 thousand seats, equivalent to 73.2% of the total.
It should be noted that the Cancun airport is where tourists who visit Chichén Itza mostly arrive, one of the main archaeological sites of the Mayan culture, which since 2007 has been part of the New 7 Wonders of the World.
Finally, the Secretary of Tourism of Mexico also announced that in 2023, the main international routes to Mexico with the highest number of scheduled seats were: Dallas-Cancún with 702 thousand 536 seats, Los Angeles- Guadalajara with 663 thousand 769 seats and Toronto-Cancún with 624,882 seats.
