The Ministry of Tourism of Mexico (Sectur) reported that the foreign exchange income from international visitors in January-February 2024 was 6,320 million dollars, this is 8.8% more compared to the same two-month period in 2023, also exceeding with 39.7% captured in January-February 2019 (before the pandemic closure).

Mexico is one of the countries in Latin America, most chosen by foreign tourists, who come attracted by its warm beaches and rich history. In Yucatán, there is one of the favorite places of visitors: Chichén Itza, one of the main archaeological sites of the Mayan culture, which since 2007 has been part of the New 7 Wonders of the World.

Based on the results of the International Traveler Survey published by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), between January and February 2024, 7 million 92 thousand international tourists entered the country, which represents 4.8% more than what captured in January-February 2023; and 3.4% more than arrivals in the same period of 2019.

The foreign exchange income from international tourists in the first two months of 2024 was 5,914 million dollars, which represents 8.6% more compared to the same period of 2023; also exceeding the foreign exchange of the same period of 2019 by 42.5%, which was 4,152 million dollars.

Regarding the average expenditure of international tourists by air during January-February 2024, this registered 1,261.1 dollars; with a growth of 3% compared to the same period in 2023, and exceeding the average expenditure recorded in the first two months of 2019 by 17.4% more.

During January-February 2024, one million 963 thousand cruise passengers arrived at the different ports of Mexico; exceeding by 11.6% the figure registered in the same period of 2019.

In this period, foreign exchange earnings from cruise excursionists amounted to 167.3 million dollars; exceeding the amount raised in the same period of 2019 by 37.5% more.

During January-February 2024, the balance of international visitors was 4,916 million dollars, this is 5.8% more than what was registered in January-February 2023; also exceeding the balance captured in the same period of 2019 by 69.8%.
