The Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism of Peru- Elizabeth Galdo, reported that during the first quarter of 2024 a total of 768,416 international tourists entered Peru, an increase of 62.4% compared to the same period of the previous year. This represented an additional flow of 295 thousand tourists with respect to the same period of 2023.

It should be noted that for tourism, Peru has two wonders of the world. One is the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu, highlighted for its historical value and the beauty of the entire archaeological team, was chosen as one of the new 7 wonders of the world in July 2007.

And in 2011, the Amazon river was chosen as one of the new 7 wonders of nature. The Amazon River is born more than 5,000 kilometers of altitude, in the Andes of the Andes of Peru, and continues for almost 7 thousand kilometers until its mouth, in northern Brazil, in the state of Parar.

 

Main tourist emitters

According to the information provided by the National Superintendence of Migration, the main international tourist issues markets were: Chile (218,307 tourists and growth of 61.7%), United States (124,478 tourists and growth of 39.6%), Ecuador (63,923 tourists and growth of 30.6%), Bolivia (45,701 tourists and growth of 302.4%), Colombia (37,287 tourists and 30.8%) and Brazil (34,544 tourists and growth of 130.9%).

“These are important figures that exceed the initial estimates. With this positive trend there are many markets that will soon reach pre -paid levels such as the United Kingdom, Brazil and Spain, among others,” said the head of Mincetur.

 

Regional blocks

At the regional block level, South America explained 56.4% of the total tourists who arrived in Peru (433 thousand international tourists). For its part, North America concentrated 21.1% (162 thousand tourists), Europe 15.2% (117 thousand tourists), Asia 4.2% and Central America 2.2%.

Meanwhile, the most dynamic markets were mainly Asian such as Singapore (+280%), Malaysia (+259.4%), Taiwan (+302.2%), Japan (244.8%), Thailand (+ 188%) and China (+213.3%).

In relation to the income of international tourists due to the immigration control stalls, the Jorge Chávez International Airport (AIJCH) stands out with a total of 446 thousand tourists (58% participation), the Santa Rosa de Tacna border control post that recorded the Income of 177 thousand tourists (23.0%), the CEBAF Tumbes that registered the income of 54 thousand tourists (7.0%) and the border control post/CEBAF Puno that recorded the income of 42 thousand tourists (5, 4%).
