The “Travel Month June” tourism program will feature significant discounts on public transportation, accommodation and tourism products for trips within South Korea.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) announced in May the launch of the event, which will run until June 30.

It should be noted that one of the most visited places in the country is Jeju Island, one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature since 2011. The island has beautiful landscapes and lush nature that make it unique.

The “Travel Month June” tourism program offers discounts of up to 50 percent on transportation fares, 30,000 to 50,000 won on accommodation and 10,000 won on theme park tickets. Other products allow access to places not open all year round or normally closed to the public, providing the opportunity to live unique experiences in hidden places.

The first advantage is the greater discounts on transportation. When combined with regional tourism products such as accommodation or experience tickets, tourists can get discounts of 30 percent on weekdays and 50 percent on weekends on the KTX high-speed train.

In addition, young people can get a discount of 10,000 won on the unlimited Naeilro Pass train pass, 20,000 won on domestic flight fares and 50 percent on city sightseeing bus fares.

Travelers with pets can enjoy lower airfares for themselves and their pets.

Visitors from regions with declining populations who accept a digital tourist ID card can pay less for accommodation, food and drink, and sightseeing.

For high-speed train tickets to 12 stations near regions that accept the card you can benefit from discounts of 35 percent for travel between 9:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. Passengers traveling on these trains can get a discount of 20,000 won by visiting merchants that accept the card and receiving discount certificates on the spot.

For accommodation, the event offers 250,000 discount vouchers.

Twelve metropolitan cities and provinces across the country will offer discounts of 50,000 won on a first-come, first-serve basis from May 28 to 30 on accommodations charging 70,000 won or more per night.

Starting June 3, discounts of 20,000 won to 30,000 won will be offered to those who book at places that charge 20,000 won or more per night in non-metropolitan areas.

Exclusive regional tourism products will include cultural and arts festivals, farming and fishing village experiences, and cycling tours.

Tourists will be able to try about 130 travel products in about 70 regions.

Cultural and exhibition centers such as branches of the Art Museum in Gangneung, Gangwon-do Province, Jeju Island, and Yeosu, Jeollanam-do, and Haslla Art World in Gangneung, will offer discounts.

“Yeogiro”, a tourism product that received positive responses in “March Travel Month”, will continue in June as well. It is a one-day train trip that travels through 14 small towns with 12 regional experiences in tradition, culture and history. The price of 49,000 won covers transportation, food and entry to tourist attractions. It will be offered four times during the month, on the 1st, 7th, 14th and 15th.
