The Secretary of Tourism of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, reported that from January to April 2024, 12,510 million dollars entered the country for international visitors, which represents an increase of 8.2% more than the same period of 2023, and 36.8%, compared to the first quarter of 2019.

The places that tourists visit most in Mexico are their warm beaches, and in Yucatán one of the favorite places of visitors is Chichen Itza, one of the main archaeological sites of the Mayan culture, which since 2007 is part of the new 7 Wonders of the World.

Based on the results of the Survey of International Travelers published by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), the head of the Ministry of Tourism of Mexico (Sectur) reported that between January and April 2024, 14 million 719,000 international tourists entered the country, which represents 6.4% more than what was captured in January-April 2023; and 0.2% more at the arrivals of the same period of 2019.

The income of foreign exchange for international tourists in the first four months of the year was 11,665 million dollars, which represents 7.7% more compared to the same period of 2023; also exceeding with 39.4% more the currencies of the same period of 2019, which was 8,366 million dollars.

During January-April 2024, 8 million 744 thousand air-internment tourists arrived in Mexico, this represents an increase of 6.2% more compared to the same quarter of 2023, also surpassing with 22.2% more air-ination tourists captured in that same period of 2019.

Torruco Marqués pointed out that the average expenditure of airborne tourists, during January-April 2024, recorded $1,238.1; with a growth of 2.4% compared to the same period of 2023, and exceeding with 17.9% more, the average expenditure recorded in the first quarter of 2019.

During January-April 2024, 3 million,822,000 passengers arrived in the different ports of Mexico on a cruise ship; exceeding by 5.7% more than the figure recorded in the same period of 2019.

The head of Sectur indicated that, from January to April 2024, the income of foreign currency by hikers on cruise ships amounted to 325.8 million dollars; exceeding with 29.8% more the amount collected in the same period of 2019.

In addition, between January-April 2024, the balance of the balance for international visitors was 9,415 million dollars, this is 3.5% more than recorded in the first quarter of 2023; also exceeding with 56.8% the balance captured in the same period of 2019.

The Secretary of Tourism highlighted that the increase in foreign exchange income shows that the policy implemented by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador is right, since this is how the tourism potential of a nation is measured, which also contributes to the benefits of the sector reaching the local population, complying with his instruction to make tourism a tool of social reconciliation.
