On July 7, the official day of the 7 wonders worldwide, Petra celebrated and honored the New 7 Wonders of the World, with an impressive visual recreation, where hundreds of people formed a giant number 7 human, next to the historical site In Jordan.

With this surprising image, and with other events to celebrate the 17th anniversary of his statement on Sunday, July 7, on the “Day of the New Wonders of the World 2024”, Petra honored the world’s first global vote to choose the New 7 Wonders of the World, in a campaign that was organized by the New7wonders Foundation, based in Zurich.

Chosen by over 100 million votes, the New 7 Wonders of the World are, in alphabetical order, Chichén Itzá of Mexico, the Colosseum of Italy, Cristo Redentor of Brazil, the Great Wall of China, Machu Picchu of Peru, Petra of Jordan and the Taj Mahal of India.

Bernard Weber, President and Founder of New7Wonders, says “The symbolism of the giant human 7, composed by people standing together to form the shape, reminds us that the New 7 Wonders of the World were also chosen by people, the world’s first and largest global voting campaign, becoming part of the making of history”.

The Chairman of Board of Commissioners of The Petra Development & Tourism Region Authority, Dr. Fares Abdel Hafez Al-Braizat, who will lead the celebra?ons on behalf of Petra and Jordan, says “Petra is proud to be once again at the centre of the world, together with its fellow Wonders from across our planet, celebrating this historical achievement by humanity. Being one of the New 7 Wonders of the World is not only an honour, it is a unique asset to develop social-economic opportunities across Jordan and the entire region.”

Commenting on this event, Mr. Jean-Paul de la Fuente, Director of New7Wonders, representing the official global authority for voting for Wonders, says “We see Petra as a key partner for many future developments that will help deliver the Wonder Effect in positive economic, branding and social outcomes, just as the New7Wonders movement has already helped to achieve across the world”.

At the same time, in Machu Picchu (Peru) the recreation of greater altitude of a giant human number 7 was organized.

With this surprising visual, Machu Picchu honored the world’s first vote to choose the New 7 Wonders of the world, a global campaign organized by the New 7 Wonders Foundation based in Zurich.

On the occasion, the official Representative Advisor of New7Wonders for Peru, and organiser of the historic giant human number 7, Juan César Zubiate, adds “From the top of the sanctuary of Machu Picchu, the heart of Peru itself, we send our congratulations and the positive energy of New7Wonders to all our sister Wonders across the world on this historic day”.
