The Secretary of Tourism of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, announced that, during the period from January to June 2024, the arrival of 11,998 thousand international tourists by air to Mexico according to their nationality was recorded, this represents an increase of 4.9% compared to the same period of 2023.
One of the favorite places for tourists in Mexico, in addition to its Caribbean beaches, is Chichén Itzá, one of the main archaeological sites of the Mayan culture, which since 2007 is part of the New 7 Wonders of the World.
The head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) also reported that this represents an increase of 18.6% compared to the arrivals registered in the same period of 2019 when 10 million 117,000 tourists were registered.
According to information from the Unit of Migration Policy-Registration and Identity of Persons of the Ministry of the Interior (Segob), the main countries in arrivals of international tourists by air to Mexico from January to June 2024 were: United States, Canada and Colombia with 9 million,537 thousand tourists, which represents an increase of 6.8% compared to 2023; also exceeding with 30.4% the 7 million 314 thousand tourists in 2019.
During the period from January to June 2024, the arrival of Americans by air reached 7 million 612 thousand tourists, surpassing with 7% more, the figure of the same period of 2023 with 7 million 111 thousand tourists and also exceeding with 36.1% the arrivals of 2019 when 5 million 592,000 tourists arrived.
While the arrival of Canadian tourists during the first half of 2024 was one million,612 thousand tourists, which represents 10.7% more than in 2023 when one million,457 thousand tourists were registered; likewise, exceeding with 11.5% the one million,445 thousand tourists attracted in 2019.
Meanwhile, during January-June 2024, the arrival of Colombians by air was 312,960 tourists, exceeding 276,762 tourists in 2019, which represents 13.1% more.
During the months of January to June 2024, the airports that received the largest number of international tourists were: Cancun, the AICM and Los Cabos, with 8 million 842,000 tourists, which represents 1.9% more than 2023 and also exceeding with 14.3% more, the arrivals of 2019 which were, 7 million,735 thousand tourists.
