The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, reported that the income of foreign exchange for international visitors was 22 billion 478 million dollars, in the period January-August 2024, 6.6 percent more than in the same period of 2023.

Based on the results of the International Travelers Survey, published by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), the head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) indicated that in the first eight months of the year the arrival of 29 million international tourists was recorded, which represents an increase of 5.5 percent compared to 2023.

He pointed out that the average expenditure on boarding tourism by air also showed an increase, registering 178.3 dollars, 2.4 percent higher than that recorded in January-July 2023.

Rodríguez Zamora recalled that according to expectations, the arrival of 45 million 242 thousand international tourists is estimated in 2024, a figure 7.3% higher than that recorded in 2023, with an economic spill of 33 billion 450 million dollars by international visitors, 36.1 percent more than in 2019 and 8.6 percent higher than in 2023.

Likewise, the average expenditure on air travel tourism is expected to be 1,151 dollars, 14.9 and 2.2 percent more than in 2019 and 2023, respectively.

In the country, one of the most visited places is Chichen Itzá – the most famous temple of the Mayan city, which was the political and economic center of the Mayan civilization and is one of the New 7 Wonders of the World since 2007.
