The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, reported that the population employed in the tourism sector of Mexico amounted to 4 million 902,000 people employed in the period July-September 2024, which implies 9.1% of national employment.

According to the National Occupation and Employment Survey (ENOEN) by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEgi), the head of the Ministry of Tourism said that the above represents a growth of 40,695 more people employed, compared to the 4 million 861 thousand people employed in the second quarter of 2024.

The above, based on the methodology approved by the Specialized Technical Committee of Economic Statistics of the Tourism Sector (CTEEEST), composed of Inegi, the Ministry of Labor and Social Security (STPS), the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) and Sectur.

Rodríguez Zamora added that it also represents an increase of 2.9 percent compared to the third quarter of 2023, that is, 137,522 more people employed, in the sector producing tourist goods and services.

Likewise, in the third quarter of 2024, tourism employment exceeded by 9.2 percent, that is, with 414,191 people, the historical figure recorded in the 1st quarter of 2020, prior to the pandemic, when 4 million 487,000 people were registered.

It should be noted that tourism is one of the engines of the Mexican economy and one of the most visited places is Chichen Itzá, one of the New 7 Wonders of the World.
