The works, estimated at 25 million reais (about 4,060,125 dollars), would begin in the first half of 2025.
The attraction with AI resources will open on the 95th anniversary of the Christ the Redeemer monument, one of the New 7 Wonders of the World since 2007, and the museum promises an immersive experience for visitors.
The initiative is from Mude Brasil, a company specialized in the design and construction of museums, together with the Archdiocese of Rio de Janeiro and the Cataratas Group, which manages the visitor center and the van service.
The museum project, inspired by the trinity of faith, nature and humanity, will include ten thematic areas, with interactive and playful resources. “Visitors will have the opportunity to interact with the aspects of beliefs and religiosity that the monument represents. In addition, the museum will tell the history of the monument, not only its construction, but how it was financed, the participation of the population in this process and the personalities who visited it. Their relationship with the environment and sustainability issues will also be present,” explained Marcelo Fernandes, CEO of Mude Brazil.
Among the attractions, visitors will be able to “feel” the sensation of being in the arms of Christ, see Rio from above and get to know a giant replica of the head of the monument up close. One of the areas will cover the story of Princess Isabel, who rejected the proposal to have her image at the top of the Corcovado and moved the tribute to Jesus.
The museum will also have a place of reflection, an area of Christ and Art, with reproductions of collections from around the world, and a section with a four-dimensional experience, which will simulate the feeling of being at the top of the monument.
“Seeing Rio from the arms of Christ, which today is a privilege of few, will be available to more people after the opening of the museum,” Fernandes assured.
Vatican
For the Christ and Art area, an agreement is being negotiated with the Vatican Museum. The rector of the Sanctuary of Christ the Redeemer, Father Omar Raposo, will be the curator of the space. “We will have a museum that will show Christ in 360 degrees, that is, in all his artistic fullness, making himself known in his multiple activities. It will surely be the most visited museum in Brazil,” said the rector.
According to information published by the newspapers Extra and do Rio, the price of the ticket is not yet defined, but it could be included in the means of transport to access Corcovado and be free for public schools.
