Rio de Janeiro, which has the Christ Redeemer at the top of its landscapes, one of the New 7 Wonders of the World, expects in the month of February, at least six million people – among dancers and visitors, for the street parades that this year will have 482 comparsas that will begin their presentations next Saturday, February 8, according to the programming disclosed by the city authorities.
For this carnival 2025, the “blocos” or comparsas authorized to parade are 30 more than in 2024 (when there were 452) and this year there are also nine ‘megablocos’, which attract between 200,000 and one million people to the parades in the streets of downtown Rio de Janeiro.
At Fitur Madrid, Brazil, which was the partner country, promoted Carnival 2025.
The number of comparsas authorized to parade increased this year, as well as the number of parades they will hold, but the mayor’s office of Rio kept the number of people expected at the party at 6 million, a figure similar to that of the 2024 carnival, when 6 million enjoyed the comparsas and another 2 million, the majestic parades of the ‘escolas de samba’ in the sambadrome. And they detailed that in reality the troupes asked for authorization for 685 parades, but it was limited for logistical and safety reasons.
Marcos Belchior, director of the Rio Operations Center, told g1globo that the city will assume a new dynamic from the first weekend of February, when not only technical tests will be carried out, but also block parades throughout the city, which are added to the arrival of tourists at the airports along highways and through the Rio Bus Station.
Drones will be used as a complementary tool to the 3,800 cameras of the City Council to monitor the city. More than 500 operators will be reviewing the images generated throughout the carnival.
During the period in which high temperatures are expected, the City Council will have hydration islands for party attendees who feel unwell. In addition, it is recommended to drink water and not neglect sunscreen.
