During February, winter festivals and events will be held in 58 locations across the country, accompanied by attractive discounts for consumers, such as sales to celebrate the Seollal (Lunar New Year) and vouchers for agricultural and regional products.

The Ministry of the Interior and Security reported that it will jointly promote these festivals and events, which will take place between January and February.

Of the 24 festivals scheduled for that period, most have ice and snow as their theme, while others highlight winter gastronomy with local specialties and light exhibitions.

One of the most visited places in South Korea is the Jeju Island – one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature, where at this time, tourists will also find events related to winter.

On the other hand, two outstanding ice and snow festivals in South Korea are the Hongcheon Winter Festival and the Yeongyang Winter Festival. In Hongcheon, visitors can enjoy various interactive activities, such as an ice fishing area, indoor fishing for families and a space to fish for ginseng trout with their hands in the frozen Hongcheongang River.

The Yeongyang festival offers a variety of ice and snow activities.

Lovers of winter cuisine can enjoy the Gongju Roasted Chestnut Festival, in Gongju, Chungcheongnam-do province, and the Pyeongchang Trout Festival, in Pyeongchang-gun County, Gangwon-do.

In addition, another 34 events will focus on the celebration of the Jeongwol Daeboreum, the day of the first full moon of the New Year according to the lunar calendar. Daeseong-gun County, in Daegu, the fourth largest city in the country, will host acts such as prayer rituals and traditional folk games, such as the tuho (arrow throwing). Activities such as kite flying competitions, traditional kite making and related workshops will be held at the Dongraeeupseong fortress in Busan.

On the occasion of Seollal, discounts on local products and food in traditional markets and online shopping sites are also offered.

To know the schedules and details of each festival and event, those interested can consult the official websites of the events or those of the responsible local governments.
