Faced with the demand of foreign tourists arriving in South Korea, attracted by its beautiful landscapes, culture and history, the Ministry of Justice announced on February 24, the launch of the Electronic Arrival Card to Korea, also known as the “e-Arrival” card.
Among the most chosen places by foreign tourists, is the island of Jeju, one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature in the world. Destinations such as Seoul also stand out, and outside the capital are included the Seoraksan National Park and the historic city of Gyeongju, among others.
With the “e-Arrival” card, foreign tourists traveling to Korea will be able to present their arrival card online, up to three days before entering the country, via a computer or smartphone, instead of using paper forms on arrival.
Foreign visitors who stay for a short period – up to 90 days – must present a card when entering the country. The regulation also applies to those who stay longer than that period, if they are not residents of Korea.
Holders of a valid K-ETA (Korean Electronic Travel Authorization), those who have a Korean residence card, travelers with group (electronic) visas and airline crews are exempt from the entry declaration.
The application and presentation of the “e-Arrival” card can be made up to three days before the arrival date, and until the immigration inspection, through the program’s website (www.e-arrivalcard.go.kr) through a computer or smartphone (QR codes can be scanned).
To minimize confusion, in the initial phase of the new system, the ministry will also allow, until the end of this year, the concurrent use of previous paper arrival cards.
