This was expressed by Kanchan Kalia Kukreja, an official of the Ministry of Tourism of India.
“It’s an incredible feeling for all Indians to see the Taj Mahal as one of the New 7 Wonders of the World since 2007,” he said.
In this context he added “India. As you all know, it is famous for its diverse culture, history, wildlife, wellness proposals, yoga practices, and its diverse geography ranging from the Himalayas to deserts and tropical beaches.”
“And in the same way, in the Taj Mahal, everything is combined in diversity, because there are Hindu, Persian and Islamic elements. And that conjugation is the basis of this model of architecture of the Taj Mahal,” explained Kanchan Kalia Kukreja.
Regarding the question of whether visits to the destination increased, since it was declared as one of the New 7 Wonders of the World, the official of the Ministry of Tourism of India said “definitely, after being declared as one of the New 7 Wonders of the World, visits in Agra and Delhi have increased a lot.”
In reference to how many visits they expect for this 2025, the Tourism official said “last year we had more than 5 million visits to the monument (Taj Mahal). And for this year we expect them to visit the place, between 5 and 6 million tourists.
Taj Mahal
Also known as one of the most beautiful palaces in India, the Taj Mahal is actually a funerary monument built by the Muslim emperor Sha Jahan of the Mughal dynasty between 1632 and 1654, in the city of Agra on the banks of the Yamuna River.
The imposing set of buildings was erected in honor of his favorite wife, Arjumand Banu Begum, better known as Mumtaz Mahal, who died in the birth of her fourteenth child.
Taj comes from Persian and means crown, and Mahal was the name given to Mumtaz as the first lady of the palace, Taj Mahal is then the “Crown of Mahal”.
It is estimated that about 20,000 workers worked on its construction and it demanded almost 25 years. The place has an almost perfect asymmetry and its exterior colors vary according to the time of the day.
The Taj Mahal is considered the most beautiful example of a tomb, a style that combines elements of Hindu, Persian and Islamic architectures.
This monument has achieved special notoriety for the romantic character of its inspiration and although the mausoleum is covered by the white marble dome in the best known part, the Taj Mahal is a walled set of buildings that occupies 17 hectares and also includes a large mosque, a guest house and beautiful gardens.
