The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, reported that, according to expectations, the total number of tourists who will travel through the country will reach 14 million 756 thousand, 2.1 percent more than what was recorded in 2024, during the Easter holiday period.
He also added that total tourist consumption will reach 282 billion pesos, which represents an increase of 4.4 percent, compared to the same period of 2024.
In addition to its warm beaches, it should be remembered that the archaeological zone of Chichen Itzá, recognized as one of the New 7 Wonders of the World, is one of the favorite places of tourists. It closed 2024 as the most visited archaeological site in Mexico, with more than 2.2 million tourists, this ancient Mayan city was consolidated as the main cultural destination in the country, attracting both nationals and foreigners.
The head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) specified that, in this holiday season, which includes Saturday, April 12 to Sunday, April 26, 2025, at the national level an average occupancy of 65.7 percent is projected, which represents an increase of 2.2 percentage points in reference to the same period of 2024.
He said that the arrival of 6 million 578,000 tourists to hotels is expected, 1.6 percent more than in 2024, of which 4 million 852 thousand will be national tourists, 73.8 percent of the total, while 26.2 percent will correspond to international tourists.
In addition, he added that it is estimated that 7 million 462,000 national tourists opt for other forms of accommodation, such as accommodation with family and friends or in second homes. It is also expected that 716,000 international tourists will use digital hosting platforms.
Rodríguez Zamora highlighted that an income of 15,716 million pesos is projected for lodging during the next vacations.
He praised that these data confirm the positive trend of national tourism activity; the economic spill and the direct and indirect benefits for resident communities, during Holy Week 2025, will contribute to strengthening economic development and will continue to generate jobs in various sectors such as hotels, restaurants and transport.
