The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, celebrated that the Holy Week period exceeded all expectations since it recorded an economic spill at the national level for tourist consumption of 144 billion 948 million Mexican pesos (about $7,429,991,545 US dollars), counting from Saturday, April 12 to Sunday, April 20, which represents an increase of 5.4 percent, compared to 2024.
He stressed that the national hotel occupancy accounted for an influx of 67.7 percent, 3.2 percentage points more than in the same period of the previous year; he also specified that 3 million 430 thousand tourists arrived in hotel rooms, of which 73.1 percent were national and 26.9 percent international.
In addition to its warm beaches, it should be remembered that the archaeological zone of Chichen Itzá, recognized as one of the New 7 Wonders of the World, is one of the favorite places of tourists. This site closed in 2024 as the most visited archaeological site in Mexico, with more than 2.2 million tourists, in this way the ancient Mayan city was consolidated as the main cultural destination in the country, attracting both nationals and foreigners.
The head of the Ministry of Tourism reiterated her commitment to continue promoting “Mexico and its greatness” – as the president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, explained during the morning conference: “The morning of the people”, as well as continuing to make tourism a generator of shared prosperity, whose benefits reach all members of the productive chain, with emphasis on the resident communities directly and indirectly.
The Secretary of Tourism of Mexico reiterated the statement of the President of the Republic that the country “has more tourists from January to March and a greater economic spill than last year. It is a fundamental activity and we must continue to promote economic development”.
