The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico – Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, celebrated that within the framework of the Tianguis Tourist Fair 2025 (held in Baja California- Mexico at the end of April), new national and international air routes were announced that will encourage tourist activity throughout Mexico.
Known for its warm beaches, Mexico stands out in international tourism, for also offering proposals of history and culture such as the archaeological zone of Chichén Itzá, recognized as one of the New 7 Wonders of the World, and one of the favorite places of tourists.
This site closed in 2024 as the most visited archaeological site in Mexico, with more than 2.2 million tourists, and in this way the ancient Mayan city was consolidated as the main cultural destination in the country, attracting both nationals and foreigners.
New air routes
The Mexican tourism official highlighted that Viva Aerobus unveiled 11 new national and international routes from Felipe Angeles International Airport (AIFA), of which seven will connect with the US destinations of Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth, Denver, Houston, Miami and Orlando, starting in November.
On the other hand, the new national destinations that will be offered, from the AIFA, are Tepic and La Paz that will start operating in May, as well as Saltillo and Veracruz that will start in November.
He added that Volaris will begin during the months of June and July with 18 new routes, three that will connect cities within Mexico from Morelia to Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, Mexicali and Puerto Vallarta; as well as 15 of an international nature, which will establish air connections between various cities of our country and the United States, as well as a connection route with Costa Rica.
Meanwhile, Aeromexico announced its new flights between Mexico City International Airport (AICM) and Punta Cana, Panama, Philadelphia and Cali; as well as a new route between San Luis Potosí and Atlanta, with which it would reach a total of 118 routes.
Rodríguez Zamora highlighted that the airline expects to close the year with a fleet of 160 aircraft, that is, a growth of 12 percent compared to the previous registration.
On the other hand, he announced that the Spanish airline Iberojet will operate a new direct flight between Querétaro, Mexico, and Madrid, Spain, which will begin operations in October with 2 weekly frequencies, on Thursdays and Sundays.
The above, he said, will connect a region of El Bajío with Europe that will encourage travelers from the old continent to know the tourist routes that Querétaro has, such as wine and romance.
The head of the Ministry of Tourism specified that connectivity in Mexico continues to rise, which not only facilitates the arrival of national and international tourists, but also allows travelers to access distant destinations and unique experiences more quickly and efficiently. These announcements of 35 new air routes made during the Tianguis Turístico demonstrate this positive trend in a forceful way.
He also stated that each new connection contributes to the strengthening of tourism activity with the increase in the influx of tourists, the diversification of tourism in the country and the arrival of new investments.
