The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, highlighted that, in the first quarter of 2025, 31 million 90,000 passengers were transported on domestic and international flights.
Known for its warm beaches, Mexico stands out in international tourism, for also offering proposals of history and culture such as the archaeological zone of Chichén Itzá, recognized as one of the New 7 Wonders of the World, and one of the favorite places of tourists.
“This growth not only reflects the good economic and tourist moment of Mexico, it is also an unequivocal sign of the strengthening of the airport infrastructure in our country, which in turn, allows us to continue making the tourism sector a key link to bring well-being and shared prosperity to all Mexicans participating in this noble activity,” he said.
According to information from the Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC) of the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport (SICT), the head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) specified that, of this figure, 14 million 799 thousand correspond to people transported on domestic flights, 5.2 percent and 24.5 percent more than recorded in 2024 and 2019, respectively.
He added that the airlines with the highest flow of travelers, during the first three months on domestic flights, were VivaAerobus and Volaris, with 10 million 773 thousand people, 8.2% more than in the same period of 2024.
On the other hand, it announced that 16 million 291,000 passengers were transported on international flights, 2 percent more in reference to 2024 and 28.5 percent more than in 2019.
Rodríguez Zamora said that the main Mexican airlines that transported passengers on international flights this quarter were Aeromexico and Volaris, with 3 million 393 thousand passengers, 3.1 percent more than in 2024.
Likewise, the American airlines that had the highest flow were: American Airlines and United Airlines, with 3 million 523,000 passengers.
