The French media Le Figaro highlighted the arrival of Peru in the prestigious Marché du Film 2025 with its impressive cinematographic scenarios.
For the first time, Peru was present at the Marché du Film of the Cannes Film Festival, one of the most influential platforms in the world for the film industry. This participation took place as part of the “Film in Peru” strategy, promoted by the Peruvian Promotion Commission for Export and Tourism (PromPerú), which seeks to project the country as a world-class filming destination.
The Cannes Film Festival, which this year celebrated its 78th edition, brings together more than 13,500 film professionals from around the world. In this context, Peru has presented an innovative proposal, highlighting ten regions with high cinematographic potential for their beautiful landscapes and places: Lima, Loreto, Amazonas, Arequipa, Áncash, La Libertad, Junín, Lambayeque, Piura and Tumbes.
In Peru, one of the favorite places of tourists is the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu, one of the New 7 Wonders of the World. And another of the places that also catches the attention of visitors is Loreto, where tours of the Amazon River are offered – one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature.
During its exhibition in Cannes, Peru recalled its growing presence on the international big screen. Movies such as Transformers: The Awakens of the Beasts (2023) and Paddington in Peru (2024) have been key to positioning the country.
Author cinema has also found inspiration in Peru. Director Werner Herzog filmed classics such as Aguirre, La Cholera de Dios and Fitzcarraldo in the regions of Loreto and Madre de Dios. More recently, the series La Reina del Sur recorded scenes in Cusco and on the boardwalk of Miraflores, Lima.
In addition to being a showcase to attract new productions, the presence in Cannes had a strategic objective: to turn cinema into a gateway to tourism in Peru. This was highlighted by the French media, which stressed how the images projected in the cinema can inspire travelers from all over the world to personally get to know these natural scenarios.
PromPerú’s Film in Peru portal offers professionals in the sector a catalog of film locations, while inviting the general public to follow the route of their favorite films throughout the country.
It is important to note that the coverage in Le Figaro, one of the most influential media in Europe with more than 20 million monthly readers, represents a valuable opportunity to continue promoting the attractiveness of Peru as a tourist destination of first-level film locations, where all stories are possible.
This action is part of PromPerú’s international promotion strategy in the European market. France, in particular, is one of the priority markets, with a visitor interested in history, gastronomy and authentic experiences.
