The Secretary of Tourism of Mexico – Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, announced that, during the first quarter of the year, 13 billion 310.7 million dollars (mdd) entered Mexico for foreign exchange by international visitors.
He said that, according to the results of the International Traveler Surveys published by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), this figure represents an increase of 6.4 percent compared to the same period of 2024.
The head of the Ministry of Tourism reported that, between January and April 2025, 15.6 million international tourists entered the country, which is equivalent to an increase of 6 and 6.2 percent compared to 2024 and 2019, respectively.
He added that, in this same period, the entry of 31.5 million international visitors was recorded, 13.3 percent more compared to 2024.
Among the favorite places of tourists in Mexico, the beaches and the archaeological area of Chichén Itza, recognized as one of the New 7 Wonders of the World, stand out. This site closed in 2024 as the most visited archaeological site in Mexico, with more than 2.2 million tourists, in this way the ancient Mayan city was consolidated as the main cultural destination in the country, attracting both nationals and foreigners.
On the other hand, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora highlighted that, during the first four months of the year, the income of foreign exchange for international tourists amounted to 12,274.1 million dollars, which represents an increase of 5.2 percent compared to 2024 and 46.7 percent compared to 2019.
Rodríguez Zamora reported that, in the first quarter of 2025, the arrival of 8.5 million tourists by air was recorded, with an average expenditure of 1,315.8 dollars, which means an increase of 6.3 percent compared to 2024, and 25.3 percent compared to 2019.
He highlighted that, in this period, 4.3 million cruise passengers arrived at the different ports of the country, that is, 11.2 percent more year-on-year, generating a foreign exchange income of 368.7 million dollars, 13.2 percent more than in 2024.
