Peru, cradle of Machu Picchu, one of the New 7 Wonders of the World and the Amazon, one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature, “generates more than 5 billion dollars in foreign currency a year and has the extraordinary capacity to bring development to the deepest corners of the country. We are talking about an activity that not only boosts the economy, but also revalues our pride as a multicultural nation,” the Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Desilú León, explained to more than 180 buyers, from 27 countries, who participated in the Peru Travel Mart 2025 business conference, at the end of this June. The inauguration of the event was in charge of the President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte Zegarra.
He also detailed that 1.3 million people live from tourism, including guides, artisans, cooks, transporters, entrepreneurs, who build great experiences for visitors.
The official also highlighted that the country already has a new General Tourism Law, elaborated thanks to an articulated work between the Executive Branch, the Congress of the Republic and civil society.
“A modern and inclusive rule and with a territorial approach that recognizes tourism as an engine of regional development and as a key activity for economic reactivation and social cohesion,” said the head of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur).
Likewise, he assured that the Peruvian Government is committed to promoting a sustainable development model for tourism activity, with programs and strategies such as “Turismo Emprende” and “Somos Artesanías”, through which economic subsidies are granted to strengthen tourist ventures and craft workshops. He added that these initiatives are joined by the Emprende TEC Turismo competition, which will promote technological innovation in 14 regions.
The inauguration ceremony was also attended by the vice president of the National Chamber of Tourism (Canatur) and executive president of the Organizing Committee of Peru Travel Mart 2025, Maritza Montero, who thanked President Dina Boluarte. “His presence and continued support for the promotion of tourism as an engine of national development and for the Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism Desilú León, whose leadership and commitment are fundamental to strengthening Peru’s presence in international markets,” he emphasized.
Likewise, this activity was attended by the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Nancy Aracelly Laca, and the executive president of PromPerú, Ricardo Limo.
Business conference
Peru Travel Mart is one of the most important business wheels in Peru oriented to receptive tourism. This year’s edition, which takes place from June 26 to 29, at the Sheraton Lima Historic Center hotel, in the Cercado de Lima, brought together 163 Peruvian companies with more than 180 buyers from 27 countries around the world (Germany, Argentina, Belgium, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, South Korea, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Spain, United States, France, Honduras, India, Italy, Mexico, Netherlands, Panama, Paraguay, Poland, United Kingdom, Russia, Sweden and Uruguay) and projects to close with more than 6000 commercial appointments and S / 63 million in potential businesses.
In addition, it included activities in cities such as Arequipa, Cusco (where Machu Picchu is located, one of the New 7 Wonders of the World) and the Amazon (one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature), with the purpose of encouraging decentralization and strengthening of the tourist chain throughout the national territory.
“These decentralized actions seek to strengthen the experiences for the benefit of the smallest communities, but which are the pillars of our tourism. I’m talking about community tourism and craft activities,” said Minister Desilú León.
The Peru Travel Mart business conference, organized by the National Chamber of Tourism (Canatur) in collaboration with Mincetur, through the Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Export and Tourism (PromPerú), seeks to showcase the offer of tourist services in the country, through pre-scheduled business appointments in a strictly professional environment.
