Peru participated in the Global Birdfair 2025 in the United Kingdom, the most important avitourism fair in the world, standing out as one of the destinations with the greatest diversity of birds and potential for nature tourism.

Avitourism is a segment in constant growth globally, and Peru is positioned as a world reference thanks to its extraordinary biodiversity: it houses 1,891 species of birds, of which 117 are endemic, that is, unique to its territory.

In line with the importance of this segment and as part of its international promotion strategy, PromPerú participated in the Global Birdfair 2025 in the United Kingdom. This is one of the most relevant meetings in the world dedicated to bird watching.

This year, the event was held from July 11 to 13 in Lyndon Park, Rutland. under the slogan, “Peru: Symphony of birds”, and on the stand the three main routes for bird watching were promoted: North, Center and South.

In addition to the birds, in the place, the visitors of the stand showed great interest in Machu Picchu, one of the New 7 Wonders of the World, and in the Amazon area, one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature, a region that houses an unparalleled natural wealth with great diversity of fauna and flora, in addition to its homonymous river.

In this context, PromPerú carried out with great success the seminar “Endemic Birds of Peru”. This was a key opportunity to show the British public the uniqueness of the Peruvian avifauna and its value.

In addition to the exhibitions and seminars, complementary activities such as receptions, networking sessions and integration spaces with tour operators, conservation associations and specialized media were carried out.

Participation in this event is part of Mincetur’s strategies, through PromPerú, to position Peru as a leading destination in nature, promoting responsible, sustainable and decentralized tourism.

Importance of avitourism for the British visitor

According to the Foreign Tourist Profile – United Kingdom of Tourism In (2024), it was recorded that 40% of British visitors who arrived in the country, carried out birdwatching activities.

The tourist from the United Kingdom stays on average 15 nights and spends USD 2,259, which makes bird tourism a profitable activity with high potential to diversify Peru’s tourist destinations.
