The head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) pointed out that, according to the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), 89 percent of the visitors were nationals and 11 percent foreigners.

The official specified that the archaeological sites of the country received 5.1 million visitors during the same period, of which 61 percent were nationals and 39 percent foreigners, which represents an increase of 3.3 percent compared to the first half of 2024.

And he highlighted that the most visited Archaeological Zones from January to June 2025 were: Chichen Itzá- one of the New 7 Wonders of the World, with 1.1 million visitors, Teotihuacán with its Site Museum, with 840,000 visitors; and Tulum with 628,000 visitors.

“It fills us with pride to see that more and more people want to know our museums and archaeological areas, which are a reflection of Mexico’s legacy of greatness. The stories that protect these places allow us to recognize ourselves in them, because what we are today is deeply marked by that past. We will continue working so that more people fall in love with this legacy and live it with respect and emotion,” said Josefina Rodríguez Zamora.
