The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, reported that the country exceeded all projections for the summer vacation period, from July 14 to August 31, by registering historical indicators that reflect the confidence of national and international tourists.
The head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) detailed that, in this period, tourist consumption amounted to 829 billion pesos (mdp), which represents a growth of 6.3 percent compared to 2024.
Likewise, 21 million 459,000 tourists stayed in hotel rooms in Mexico, a figure that is equivalent to an increase of 4.5 percent compared to the previous year. Meanwhile, national hotel occupancy reached 63 percent, that is, 2.8 percentage points more than in 2024.
He stressed that during the current administration community tourism will be consolidated, a model that promotes the direct participation of local communities in the tourist offer, with the purpose of ensuring that economic and social benefits are distributed equitably.
In addition to its warm beaches, one of the most visited places by tourists in Mexico, is the Chichen Itza, one of the New 7 Wonders of the World.
“These results are the result of the collective effort, of the coordination of the three orders of government, but above all, of the population of the country that makes Mexico a unique destination and capable of offering first-class tourist services. As President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo has pointed out, tourism must be a tool to build well-being and shared development, always with the participation of communities and the support of institutions,” she said.
Rodríguez Zamora celebrated the participation of the three levels of government in the Summer Vacation Operation 2025, as well as the coordinated work of the Green Angels, the Federal Consumer Attorney’s Office (Profeco), the Secretariat of the Navy, and the National Guard, among others.
