The Secretary of Tourism of Mexico Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, announced that, between January and August 2025, more than 82 million passengers were transported on domestic and international flights in Mexico.
In addition to its well-known beaches, one of the most visited historical places in Mexico, is Chichén Itzá, one of the New 7 Wonders of the World.
The head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) detailed that, according to information from the Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC), national and international air transport showed a positive performance, consolidating the country as one of the main air connectivity centers in the region.
He stressed that on regular domestic flights 42 million 156,000 passengers were transported during the first eight months of the year, which represents an increase of 3.6 percent compared to the same period of 2024, when 40 million 688 thousand people were mobilized.
Likewise, he highlighted the performance of Mexican airlines in the international market, since from January to August 2025 they transported 11 million 966,000 passengers, 5.6 percent more than in 2024, when they mobilized 11 million 328 thousand.
He explained that, on domestic flights, the airlines with the highest passenger flow during the period from January to August 2025 were Viva Aerobus and Volaris, with 30 million 916,000 passengers, 7.4 percent more than in 2024.
Rodríguez Zamora said that, in terms of regular international flights in the same period, the transfer of 40 million 215,000 passengers was recorded, equivalent to an increase of 1.7 percent compared to the 39 million 558,000 transported in 2024.
In this sense, he said that the main Mexican airlines that transported passengers on international flights during the first eight months of 2025 were Aeromexico and Volaris, with 9 million 473 thousand passengers, 4.6 percent more than the previous year.
On the other hand, the American airlines that in this period had the highest flow of passengers were American Airlines and United Airlines, which together totaled 9 million 87,000 passengers.
“These results reflect the strength and dynamism of the Mexican air industry, as well as the coordinated work between the sector and the Government of Mexico to promote connectivity, tourism and competitiveness of the country,” concluded the Secretary of Tourism.
