With an area of 9,835 square meters, the Museum of the Great Wall of China – one of the New 7 Wonders of the World – in Jiumenkou, is located right next to the Jiumenkou section of the Wall, in the Suizhong district of the city of Huludao.
The surface of the exhibition hall is about 2,252 square meters and shows the section of the Great Wall within the city, along with its history and protection policies, among other related aspects. A scene has also been created that reproduces the excavated archaeological site.
The museum exhibits a wide variety of ancient weapons, historical documents and paintings, and visitors can learn about the history of the Great Wall through digital media and interactive exhibitions.
The current Jiumenkou section of the Great Wall was built in 1,381, during the reign of Emperor Hongwu of the Ming dynasty (1368-1644).
The section was opened to the public in 1989 and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) included it in the list of Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2002. While in July 2007, the Great Wall of China was declared one of the New 7 Wonders of the World.
