The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, reported that, between January and September 2025, 71 million visitors arrived in the country, which represents an increase of 13.9 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.

In addition to its well-known beaches, one of the most visited historical places by tourists in Mexico, is Chichen Itzá, one of the New 7 Wonders of the World.

“The results we present today augur a historic 2026 for tourism in Mexico; a year that, with the impetus of the World Cup, FITUR and other international promotional actions, will consolidate our country as a tourist and cultural power at a global level,” he said.

The head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) highlighted that, in this period, the income of foreign currency by international visitors amounted to 25 billion 778.4 million dollars, which means an increase of 6.2 percent compared to 2024.

He added that, according to the International Travelers Survey, published by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi), during the first nine months of the year, 34.7 million international tourists entered Mexico, that is, 6.4 percent more than in 2024.

Rodríguez Zamora specified that, until the third quarter of 2025, the average expenditure of air travel tourists was $1,242.6, which represents an increase of 6.1 percent compared to the previous year and 21.4 percent compared to 2019.

“Tourism activity continues to grow constantly and everything indicates that 2025 will close as a historic year, reflecting the commitment of all the actors in the sector to consolidate our country as one of the most important destinations in the world,” he said.

He also stressed that, in September alone, the entry of international visitors to Mexico grew by 16 percent, registering the arrival of 7.28 million visitors. Likewise, he pointed out that, with the start of the winter season in October, a significant upturn in the arrival of visitors is expected, particularly from the United States and Canada.

He added that this period is usually one of the most active of the year for the tourism sector, due to the increase in vacation trips, weather and air connectivity, which reinforces Mexico’s position as one of the favorite destinations in North America.

In the first nine months of this year, 8.0 million cruise hikers arrived at the different ports of the country, which meant an increase of 10.6 percent compared to 2024 and 23.4 percent compared to 2019.

In this sense, he added that the foreign exchange income by cruise tourers reached 668.9 million dollars, 11.6 percent and 51.1 percent more compared to 2024 and 2019, respectively.

“Let’s remember that tourism is an engine of shared prosperity, which drives social development, strengthens local economies and contributes to the well-being of communities, generating opportunities that translate into a better quality of life for more Mexicans,” he concluded.
